Concept Genesis
The Avanti 26R is a newly designed 26 one-design and club racer designed to give you every bit of performance possible without using exotic materials, except where it really matters. The goal, the highest boat speed at the lowest possible cost.
The Avanti 26R uses only the same keel bulb as the Avanti 26DH. The rest, is the near polar opposite. High form stability at low to moderate angles of heel, optimized performance coefficients for lower upwind heel angles. Her keel is marginally shorter to reduce downwind resistance and inertia, yet still deep and heavy enough to facilitate easy recoveries from the inevitable downwind broach. With most of the righting moment coming from crew weight and form stability at low angles, she boasts 23% more righting moment upwind at 12 deg heel than the Avanti 26DH (designed for heel angles around 20-22 deg with DH crew). The shorter keel additionally offers a more favourable handicap to performance ratio.
